The swimming pools at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre are closed "until further notice" after a notice was put on the front doors yesterday (Tuesday).
The Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, who operate the venue on Pit Road on behalf of Fife Council, said there's an issue with the roof and checks are being carried out on the internal roof tiles.
As previously reported in the Times, the centre reopened last September after an £8 million facelift.
The facility closed its doors in 2024 to undergo major changes, which included extending the gym area, the swimming pool area being modernised, and the health suite being revitalised with a brand-new sauna and steam room.
Last night, the centre posted on Facebook to tell customers that the swimming pools are currently shut.
However, all of the other facilities at the site are open as usual.
The post states: “Please be advised that the swimming pools at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre are currently closed until further notice.
“All other facilities within the venue remain open as normal.
“Customers currently attending swimming lessons will be contacted by the team.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
“Please keep an eye on our social media and website channels for further updates and information regarding when the swimming pools will reopen.”
A spokesperson for the trust said: “We can confirm that the pool hall has been temporarily closed to allow checks to be carried out on the internal roof tiles.
“As a precaution, the area will remain closed while a specialist contractor completes an assessment.
“All other areas of the venue remain open as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience and will provide a further update as soon as more information is available.”
They added that they are unable to confirm a reopening timescale at the moment.
