Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre has reopened after an £8 million upgrade.
Queues formed for today’s 6am soft launch, when residents were able to take in the fresh layout.
The facility closed its doors back in April 2024, and has since undergone large-scale changes.
Councillor Darren Watt was one of the first through the doors this morning. He said: “There was a right positive buzz about it, having such good facilities on the doorstep at a time when many local authorities are closing facilities.
“It’s more than just a catchphrase having the community at the heart of the hub, it really is going to be a well-used facility because there’s so much on offer.
“Hopefully it's going to compliment other places in the town centre, whether that’s the Maxwell centre across the road or various cafes on the High Street.
“With the train station, good buses, and free parking, it’s a really good thing for visitors.”
The venue is operated by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, who teamed up with Fife Council and OnFife to make upgrades.
Work has seen the gym area extended, a health suite revitalised with a brand-new sauna & steam room, and an enhanced synthetic turf pitch.
The swimming pool area has also been modernised, along with its changing area.
A statement made by operators of the centre said: “The renovation project marks a celebration of putting our community at the heart of everything we do. Leisure facilities like Cowdenbeath are vital spaces for wellbeing, pride, and togetherness, and we’re proud to welcome everyone.
“We have had some amazing feedback on the swimming pool, sauna, gym and fitness studio so far from customers, not to mention that all important swimwear dryer.”
Another major change is that the town’s library has moved into the building’s lower floor from its previous High Street location.
Mr Watt commented: “The inviting space is very comfortable and welcoming, and has captured the essence, warmth, and openness of the old library.”
