In August, a 'phenomenal little team' were 'split apart' as Iceland in Cowdenbeath closed its doors for one last time.

The High Street branch - which has served the community for 35 years - shut its doors for the final time, resulting in five staff's redeployment and five redundancies.

Taking to social media to comment on Iceland's closure, store workers said: "So tonight Team Cowden closed the door for the final time.

"The store was the second Iceland to open in Scotland and has been on Cowdenbeath High Street for 35 years!

"Our longest-serving member of the team, Carole Aitken, has been with Iceland a total of 45 years! And our Gordon has been here for the full 35!

"Collectively there is 137 years Iceland experience in this store.

"The love pouring in from the customers this week has been both overwhelming and humbling.

"Five redeployments and five redundancies sees this phenomenal little team split apart.

"We cannot thank our customers enough for your years of loyal business, your kindness, and well wishes in the end and to those who contributed to our kitty for our night out.

"We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

An Iceland spokesperson had previously confirmed that the Cowdenbeath store would close on Saturday, August 12.

The spokesperson said: "We continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.”
