A 12-year-old Cowdenbeath go-kart driver was delighted to take the gold medal in her first race at an away track.
Skye Moyes has been making a name for herself in what is an overwhelmingly male-dominated scene.
She overcame competitors of both genders in her age category at the Hamish Ross memorial event up North in Golspie on Saturday, August 29.
Proud mother Amanda Moyes said: “The girls hold their own and everyone gets treated the same.
“She’s so dedicated, it’s like she has a switch-off button and nothing else matters as soon as she’s on the track.
“This is her first ever win and it wasn’t at her home venue, so she’s delighted.
“She was very defensive with her driving and used the width of the track to keep the second-placed driver off.”
Skye’s journey into racing began less than a year ago when she travelled to Crail and got involved with a club.
The Beath High School pupil comes from a family of motorsport enthusiasts, and she’s keen to follow in the footsteps of her uncle Darren Rae, who competes in two-litre saloon events at Cowdenbeath Racewall.
Amanda said she has been into speed “from the minute she was born”.
She commented: “I think she got her very first quad bike at three years old.
“If you ask her, she’ll just say she wants to be the best, but I’m not sure where she will want to take it.
“The way we see it, rather than her being out on the street, she’s practicing. It gives her something positive to look forward to.”
Her dad, Michael Moyes, added: “Skye has never been a particularly confident person, nor really focused on anything being neurodivergent, yet karting seems to have made a huge impact in her life.”
