NATHAN LAWSON says his first goal for Kelty Hearts felt like it had been “a long time coming” after his late winner against Annan Athletic.
The 18-year-old, who is on loan from East Kilbride, came off the bench to curl home five minutes from time and seal a 2-1 victory at New Central Park.
His decisive strike came only minutes after Annan had drawn level, with Lawson pleased by the way the men in maroon refused to settle for a point.
He said: “I was buzzing when I scored it. It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but hopefully I can just add more now.
“You can’t just put your head down and accept that it might be a draw and try and hold out for one.
“You need to keep pushing and try and get a win.
“To be fair, even after my goal, we had more chances as well. We could have put the game to bed, but I’m just glad we got the win.”
The forward came close to adding to his tally in the closing stages, seeing a one-on-one effort saved before another strike came back off the post.
“I should have had a hat-trick,” he joked.
Lawson is now hoping his breakthrough can help him force his way into a regular place in the starting XI.
He said: “It’s been my goal even before I scored that. I just want to get in that starting XI and show everyone what I can do.”
The teenager said he has quickly settled after joining on loan from EK and is enjoying being part of the group.
He added: “I’ve been here for three or four weeks now, but every week I’m just enjoying it more and more.
“I’m getting closer to the squad, which also helps me when I’m on the pitch.
“We’re fit and we have legs. It’s a proper group of friends as well. It’s not just individuals playing football together.”
