Ice hockey fans are set for a festive feast of action as the Fife Flyers take to the ice in a historic double-header at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
The Flyers will face off against the Dundee Stars on Wednesday, December 30, at 3pm in a special Motorpoint Elite League fixture, marking the first time professional ice hockey has been played at the country’s largest purpose-built events arena.
Debbie McWilliams, chief commercial officer of the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), which includes the OVO Hydro, said: "This has been an outstanding year for sport at the SEC.
"Highlights include Scotland’s World Cup matches and the 2026 Commonwealth Games and we have seen first-hand Glasgow and Scotland’s appetite for live sporting events.
"Bringing ice hockey to the OVO Hydro for the first time is a really significant addition to that programme."
The event is part of a two-day EIHL showcase featuring Scotland’s three professional teams: the Fife Flyers, Glasgow Clan, and Dundee Stars.
Following the opening clash, the Glasgow Clan will take on reigning Motorpoint Elite League champions Belfast Giants at 7.30pm.
On Hogmanay, Thursday, December 31, the Clan will return to the ice to face Dundee in a 3pm showdown for the newly introduced Scotia Quaich trophy.

"We’re bringing together teams and fans from Glasgow, Dundee and Fife plus the Motorpoint Elite League Belfast Giants to take Scottish ice hockey to the next level and introduce this thrilling, action packed but family-friendly game to new audiences."
He praised the atmosphere and inclusivity of the sport, encouraging newcomers to attend the games.
Mr Smith said: "We are proud that hockey is renowned for being open to all and the most passionate supporters, with a real family feel and USA-style entertainment making every game a real occasion.
"The excitement and energy of being at live games is unmissable – but don’t take my word for it, come see for yourself."
The OVO Hydro double-header is being billed as a celebration of Scottish ice hockey and a chance to grow the sport by reaching a wider audience.
Steve Ward, non-executive chairman of the MKM Dundee Stars, said: "This is the chance for the three Scottish teams Dundee, Glasgow, and Fife along with Belfast to showcase to as wide an audience as possible Motorpoint Elite League Hockey at its finest.
"We want to give the Scottish and Irish fans two days of hockey they won’t forget, and for us success will be making sure this becomes an annual event."
Tony Smith, chairman of the Motorpoint Elite League, said: "Playing at the OVO Hydro is huge not just for our three teams in Scotland, but for the whole of the Motorpoint Elite League.
"Having games at a venue like this helps us continue to grow the profile of the league and put our sport in front of new audiences.
"It is a fantastic venue, and we are sure the teams will create an occasion that feels bigger than just three games."
The OVO Hydro, part of the Scottish Event Campus, has hosted major events throughout 2026, including Scotland’s World Cup watch parties, the 2026 Commonwealth Games, HYROX, AEW and WWE wrestling and more.
