Cowdenbeath got the win they needed on Saturday to move out of the bottom three places in the Lowland League East, but manager Paul McLean saw a few areas that need to be improved upon for this week’s tough duo of fixtures.
The Blue Brazil go into the double-header on the back of their victory over the University of Stirling, with League One side East Kilbride visiting Central Park in the KDM Evolution Trophy on Tuesday night before Saturday’s league trip to Linlithgow Rose.
In getting their first win the Blue Brazil scored four goals and could have had a lot more, but they did give away goals in rather cheap fashion.
Nonetheless it was a good result and striker Brian Mwangi hit an excellent double and was a threat to the Students throughout the 85 minutes he was on the park.
Paul McLean observed: “In the first-half especially we played some really good football and created a lot of very good chances.
“Brian Mwangi really was different class, he linked play up superbly and produced some fine saves from their 'keeper, and hit the net twice.
“He continued that form in the second period and working up front with Dylan Mauchin created so many problems for the Stirling defence.
“However, on the down side we gave away a really poor goal early on in the game which should not have been allowed to happen, and then after fighting back to lead 3-1 at half-time, we gave away another cheap goal just a few minutes into the second-half so there is plenty to work on there.”
Nonetheless he was delighted to see this success added to the cup win over Beith of the previous week
On the midfield work he added: “Throughout the game the midfield area was strong with Finlay Ness and Liam Hoggan getting through a power of work in the wide areas and Lewis Milne and Nat Wedderburn producing a series of passes which really tested the Stirling Uni defence.
“It was an entertaining game for the fans too but we know that this week we will be fully tested by League 1 side East Kilbride in the KDM Trophy, and by Linlithgow in the league on Saturday.
“However, if we can keep producing the chances we can ask both our opponents coming up plenty of questions, we can get results”
He was without front men Mark Ferrie and Rhys Walker at the weekend, but expects both to be back in the squad for the two games coming up and has no other injury issues to report apart from long term absentee striker Ewan Sutherland's knee injury.
