The Crossgates Flying Club recently competed in the Thirsk Y.B. Race, with five members sending out 24 birds.

The winner of the internal club competition was G Bell's pigeon, which reached an impressive velocity of 11238 yards per minute.

Pigeon racing is unique in that victory does not go to the bird completing the race in the shortest time, but instead to the one achieving the highest velocity, calculated in yards per minute.
