Kelty Hearts beat Motherwell B in KDM Evolution Trophy

Kelty Hearts opened their KDM Evolution Trophy campaign by winning a seven-goal thriller against Motherwell 'B'.

The League Two side welcomed the Premiership outfit's youngsters to New Central Park on Tuesday night, and picked up three points thanks to a winner from new boy, Jamie Hislop.

The 18-year-old, who has signed on loan from Ayr United, netted what proved to be the decisive goal 17 seconds into the second period.

By that point, the hosts were 4-2 ahead, having recovered from the loss of two goals in the first quarter, from a Zander McAllister penalty, and Aaron Thomson.

Innes Murray, described as "different class" in the final third post-match by his manager, brought his side back into it with a fine effort from the edge of the box into the top corner.

He was inches from his, and Kelty's, second, when his effort from range, five minutes before the break, hit the bar and bounce on the line.

Thankfully, Ryan Shanley was there to touch the ball over the line to equalise, before he chased a long ball over the top three minutes later to chip Kelty ahead.

Hislop added their fourth, before Lucas Weir netted again for the 'Well, but O'Ware's team held on to start the competition's league phase with three points.

"I thought we started the game with the wrong mentality, which is disappointing," he said post-match.

"We concede two really slack goals, and then we start to play, in the second half of the first half.

"Second part of the first half I thought we were excellent. Some of our forward play was really good.

"We've got a lot of new faces, so, the second part of the first half was a lot more like us.

"We start the second half really well. A tremendous individual goal by Jamie, on his debut, and then the game kind of fizzles out a wee bit.

"We start going back to the slackness that we started the game with. It started to creep back in again, but, we've walked away with three points, no injuries, so, overall, we can accept."

On Hislop and fellow loanee and debutant, East Kilbride's Nathan Lawson, O'Ware added: "I think the two of them did really well. It was their first minutes with the boys, they've not trained with us, but I thought they were excellent tonight.

"I thought Innes Murray, the quality he showed in the final third, was different class."
