HAWS boss Robbie Raeside was really pleased with the way his team fought back from their disappointing 4-0 defeat at Civil Service Strollers last midweek, in overpowering Berwick Rangers to get their first Lowland League East three point haul.
And he wants them to follow this up this coming Saturday, when they entertain Dunipace at Keir's Park by getting their first home league win.
With several players still missing, Raeside brought in 19s Josh Proudfoot, Liam Middleton and and James Linton into the starting line-up, and the move paid dividends for the manager who warmly praised the trio.
“These young players were excellent, fitted in well and made a fine contribution to what was a very professional performance by the team,” he said.
“Every department of the side produced what was needed to record a shut-out, score twice and create a lot of very good chances.”
He admitted the team disappointed with the performance against Strollers last Tuesday but added: “Stepping up to this level from the East of Scotland League was going to a learning process for both the players and myself and we are having to adapt quickly.
“We certainly were much more effective at Berwick than we were against Strollers, but now we have to keep that going as we search for our first home league win this Saturday against Dunipace.
“Last season we had some cracking games against them, and in the Premier League we lost one and drew one, while we then had that amazing cup final against them in May which saw us three down inside the first quarter of the game but hit back with six goals, so this match will be a really tough test again for us.”
There will still be at least three players missing from the manager's normal squad so he may opt to go with a similar team to that which was successful at Berwick.
