HILL of Beath Hawthorn lost their opening Lowland League East game but manager Robbie Raeside felt that his team created enough chances during the game to take something from the match.
And the manager is hoping to see his team start their points collection on the road in their matches at Civil Service Strollers on Tuesday and then at Shielfield Park against Berwick Rangers on Saturday.
Having dealt really well with the fierce wind blowing from the west down Keir's Park at the weekend, Haws lost lost both goals in the game while they had the elements behind them.
One of them was a 25 yard rocket shot which flew into the top corner of the net, but the opener resulted from a little bit of slack play from the hosts.
Said Raeside: “Even against the wind we created several decent chances but a couple of good saves from the 'Shire 'keeper, and some misses by us, saw the scoreline blank at the break.
“Then early in the second-half a slack pass by us gave them the chance to take the lead and then they scored a worldy goal, which admittedly was a superb finish, but credit to our players they kept at it and the woodwork twice defied us and there were several close calls in the East Stirling box.
“Looking at the run of play and chances created we should have taken at least a point, but the players are adjusting to the rise in standards and still playing good football.”
Looking ahead he added: “We now have two away games and both will be difficult for Strollers managed to draw with last year's champions, Linlithgow Rose, while Berwick are always tough opponents at Shielfield but if we keep creating the quality of chances we created on Saturday we can get good results.
“Unfortunately we were missing six players through holidays and injuries against 'Shire, but the team still played some good stuff and a little unlucky not to get a positive result, but there will not be many of them back this week.”
