Cowdenbeath Bowling Club won the 2025 Three Counties Trophy

The competition is contested between clubs from Fife, Perthshire and Angus against different teams on neutral greens.

It gives bowlers the chance to play against new clubs and at different venues.

There were 43 clubs involved, and Cowdenbeath emerged the victors with six points and 37 shots up.

A presentation game involving the teams they played has been arranged for Sunday, September 21, at the Bowling Green Street club, and the Three Counties Committee will be there and also play in the game.

It is a competition that Cowdenbeath BC has won before, although not for a few years now.

The most recent match, on Saturday, saw Methillhill visit Cowdenbeath for their annual friendly and it was a very close game.

Rink scores were, Eric McMillan 15, Maureen Houston 15; Kevin Keir 15, Stevie Parrit 15; Brian Morri 15, Stevie Lindsay 10; Bobby Reekie 12, Bobby Robertson 12.

Cowdenbeath, who were runners-up in the Third Division, hosted Abbeyview, the First Division winners, in the quarter-final of the West Fife League Cup, at Bowling Green Street.

It was a one-sided affair with Abbeyview winning all three rinks. 

All of the Dunfermline team’s skips are current West Fife County skips, but the Cowdenbeath rinks showed a lot of good signs that they will do well in Division Two next year.

They gained promotion after a good finish to their league campaign which concluded with an away draw at Dunfermline.

Lindsay Black’s rink lost by seven shots, while Derek Easson’s rink won by seven, and Craig Allan got a draw.

The three and a half points gained from the games consolidated Cowdenbeath’s second place in the table and promotion to the Second Division.

In the BABBS competition, Eddie Hastie’s rink won 18-15 at Headwell, but unfortunately, no Cowdenbeath rink qualified for the quarter-finals.

The club have also been in action against Thornton in the second leg of the Soap Trophy.

The Cowden bowlers took a 42-shot lead with them but found the pace of the green much quicker than what they were used to, but they adjusted and ran out winners by 15 shots to bring back the trophy.
