COWDENBEATH will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when title favourites East Kilbride come to Central Park.

The Blues produced a good performance against Gala, coming from behind to score four times and secure three points, and they really should have had more goals.

Manager Dougie Hill was boosted by an "exceptional" second half when his team made light of the very strong wind in their faces to blow Fairydean away.

The win has Cowden bang in the middle of the Lowland League table, but a win over EK could move them to within a couple of points of the top sides.

Hill said: “We gave away a bad goal and then a penalty, and overall weren’t as sharp as we would have wanted, but the second half performance was exceptional.

“We handled the difficult wind well defensively, and then started to create a lot of chances and posed Fairydean a lot of problems."

East Kilbride are fourth in the table with nine points, a point off the top, while the Blues are 10th with five points.

Hill went on: “It was good to get that first league win on the board and now we have to aim to build on that this Saturday.

“Our aim is to make teams feel uncomfortable about coming to Cowdenbeath and the plan will be to make life difficult for East Kilbride, although we know they are a very good side.”

The manager’s injury problems have eased a little, with Jamie Dochery able to start and Greg MacPherson and Ethan Kerr coming on as substitutes against Gala.

However, Matty McDonald sustained a serious training injury and Aiden McLaughlin is out for at least another four weeks with his foot problem, leaving Hill short of bodies.

He was however very pleased with the way new recruits Shay Burke and Rhys Walker played.

Hill added: “Both Shay and Rhys played their part in the last two games which have seen us pick up four points and they bring some really good aspects to our play.

“It was also good to see Greg and Ethan return, but what we had out on Saturday is all we will have for some weeks to come, with Matty, Aiden and Euan MacPherson out for a spell yet.”
