COWDENBEATH boss Dougie Hill has added a new defender to his squad for the new season.

A member of last season’s successful Heriot Watt University side, Ethan Kerr has signed on for the Blue Brazil.

Under head coach Benji Koya, the uni team finished sixth in the East of Scotland First Division and Kerr was part of a defence which conceded only 41 goals in 28 league games.

He skippered the Heriot Watt team which won promotion to the First Division, and then settled in well to their new environment as they finished well up the table.

Uni also have won the King Cup twice and captured the Queen’s Park Shield by beating the highly regarded Stirling University side.

Cowdenbeath’s football operations co-ordinator, Colin Nelson, commented: “Ethan is someone we identified as a player worth watching early last season, through our scouting network, and we kept tabs on him throughout the campaign.

“He is a left sided centre-back who will give us balance defensively and options.

"He is highly motivated to do well after a hugely successful spell at Heriot Watt, where he was captain for a number of seasons and kudos go to the University for their work in Ethan’s development.”

Hill said: “I am really happy to get Ethan in our squad.

“He has some very good attributes, he is a good size and naturally left sided, which I like. He has lots of potential and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Kerr is delighted to have the chance to help Cowdenbeath make an impact in the Lowland League next season. He said: “I am buzzing to get in and started.

“It is a step-up for me, and I am looking forward to testing myself at a higher level.

"After speaking to Dougie and Colin I was sold on the club, and their ambitions, and am ready to get going.”
