RISING ring stars treated a packed audience in Cardenden to a high calibre evening of boxing at Bowhill Miners' home show on Friday.
Boxers from across Scotland, and from the Legions Gym in York, joined stars from the host club on the bill for the event at Bowhill Community Centre.
Six Bowhill Miners boxers were on the bill, including 52kg light bantamweight EUBC (European Boxing Confederation) European Junior champion, Niamh Mitchell.
She closed the show with an exhibition bout, sanctioned by Boxing Scotland, against senior competitor Niamh Hay, of Meadowbank, after her scheduled opponent had to pull out.
There were unanimous wins for Callum Stubbs, against Maddison's Kyle Logie, and Lee McLean, against Greg Westland, of Kirkcaldy's Linktown Boxing Club, whilst Marley Watson stepped into the ring for a first bout with Beath's Adam Murphy.
Brad Fleming and Brendan O'Hara narrowly lost split decisions to Rowan Waddle (St Francis) and Reece McCormack (Alloa) respectively, and James White, one of Bowhill's coaches, commented: "The show went really well.
"We'd like to thank everybody that bought a ticket; it was bursting at the seams.
"It was a great night. Niamh closed the show - we started the show with two Scottish females from the elite group (Rosie Swails, Hawick, and Kara Young, Broxburn), and finished with two females from the elite group."
The club have pencilled in another home show for September 27.
