A TREMENDOUS number of former Cowdenbeath stars are lined up to be at the club’s Lowland League match with Berwick Rangers on Saturday, March 16.

The plan for the day, organised by the Cowdenbeath Independent Supporters Society (CISS), is for all Cowdenbeath supporters old, current and new, to attend this game alongside ex-players and managers.

The ex-players will be welcomed on the pitch at half time, and then Wee Jimmies, on High Street, is booked for them to come together after the game.

The CISS’s Gordon Anderson, said: “We are also encouraging local schools to attend and a large number from the Blue Brazil Boys Football Club are also planning to attend.

“I have purchased flags and we are encouraging a singing section behind the goal in the old Coo Shed section of the ground at the west end of the stadium."

Gordon said that those confirmed to be attending thus far are include former striker Graeme Brown; midfielders Colin Scott and Neil Irvine; defenders Richard Baillie and Innes Ritchie; midfielder Craig Winter; full-back Keith Ferguson; manager of the 1992 promotion winning team John Brownlie; striker Graeme Buckley, full-back David Watt; goalkeeper Billy Lamont; linkmen Gus Malone, John Wright and Billy Bennett; utility man Hugh Douglas; centre-half Eric Archibald; left-back Sandy Robertson; midfielder-defender Barry McMahon; striker Willie Syme; centre-back Dave McGovern; midfielders Gary Fusco and Colin McCullie; and striker Gareth Wardlaw.

Added Gordon: “There are also a group of players who would have loved to join us, but are unable due to their own football commitments.

“They are planning to come to meet with their former team mates after the game. This includes Darren McGregor, Pat Scullion, Bryan Gillfilan, Jon Roberson and Mark Baxter.

“Plus Liam Buchanan and Dougie Hill will be represented at the game as players for Berwick Rangers and they are aiming to meet up with everyone after the game."

The CISS’s message is: ‘Did you attend a game in the 1970s as we battled in the old First Division? Were you one of the Cowden supporters that descended on Alloa for the nail-biting decider in 1992? Did you cheer us on in our big promotion game versus Brechin City in 2001? Were you there when the helicopter passed over the ground in 2006?

‘Did you attend matches during recent success as we climbed to the Championship? Did you witness the trophy presentations or the great escapes at East End Park and New Douglas Park, after surviving in the Championship?

‘If so, we would like you to help us to re-unite on March 16 at the home game against long-standing rivals Berwick Rangers.

‘Can we fill Central Park like we did for the unforgettable moment against Elgin City and show what Cowdenbeath FC really means for our local community?

‘Let's do this, let's fill Central Park again. Please spread the word and help us to see all supporters back together again!’
