Cowdenbeath manager Calum Elliot is looking for his side to win at Gala Fairydean Rovers this weekend to continue the improvement in their Lowland League position.

Their 1-0 win at Broomhill last Saturday has moved them on to 33 points, into 11th place, but the manager is urging his men to find consistency in the run-in to get as many points as possible from their closing nine games to move well into the top half of the table.

He said this week: “The first-half performance was very good and really we could have been four or five goals up at the interval, as we created some really good chances.

“In the second half Broomhill, understandably, being reduced to ten men, slowed the game down, and the persistent rain made the surface a little sticky, and we lost our impetus, but we were good winners.

“So when we go to Gala Fairydean this Saturday we want a similar performance and continue to keep creating good chances, although we are well aware that Gala are very difficult to beat on their own patch.”

He added: “It has been difficult to maintain consistency at times this season, losing a lot of players to injuries, but we have been having a better run at playing the same team recently and we want to turn that into a run of good results.

“We are currently in the process of constructing a squad for next season, which we want to mount a strong challenge, and while we have a lot of players signed up already, others have the chance to show that they deserve to be part of it in the closing programme.

“It is important that we win as many games as we can, to finish with a healthy points total, which can push us well up the table.”

Striker Ewan MacPherson will be available for Saturday after sitting last week out through suspension, and also in the squad will be centre-back Jack Denham, signed last week from Rosyth.

Elliot concluded: “At 6’ 5” Jack is a dominating figure, and he ticks a lot of boxes in what we are looking for defensively, and it is good to get him aboard.”
