COWDENBEATH’S run of 10 points from four games in December came to a grinding halt on Saturday thanks to morning frost and snow – and now they will look to extend the unbeaten run at sixth place Linlithgow Rose this weekend.

Concerned with the hardness of the pitch, the club called for an inspection at Central Park at 11am to determine if the home game with East Stirlingshire could go ahead.

As the inspection was starting, snow began to fall, and such was the volume of the hard areas the referee had no option but to call it off.

It was disappointing for the Blues, who found December a good month with three wins and a draw coming their way, which has seen them move on to 29 points from 20 games and them sitting in ninth place.

Last Tuesday’s win over ‘Shire, at the Falkirk Stadium, was hard earned, and like the high scoring draw with Celtic B, saw a multiple substitution making a significant difference in the game.

Against Celtic four players were thrown on after 59 minutes, and it turned a deficit into a point, and at Shire, Aiden McLaughlin, Andy Rodden and Jamie Docherty were put on by manager, Calum Elliot, in the 59th minute, and it helped Cowden go on to win.

Elliot was pleased with the way the changes worked out: “The three lads were desperate to get involved and did well when they went on, and I felt over the 90 minutes we were worth the win, getting stronger the longer the game went.

“If there was to be a negative part to the performance, the two goals we conceded were poor from our point of view with both of them avoidable.”

The manager wants his team to build on the December run, when they go to Prestonfield this Saturday, but he is very aware of the tough task they face.

However, Cowden beat Lithgae in the Scottish Cup first round tie, at Central Park, in the autumn and then drew with them in the league at home, so they can approach the game with confidence.
