COWDENBEATH have added a new player to their squad.

Cowden played premiership side Dundee United at St Andrews on Wednesday evening, after Saturday’s planned outing against Falkirk at the weekend was cancelled.

Manager Gary Bollan on Thursday welcomed Edinburgh City captain, Craig Thomson, as the latest addition to his squad for the season ahead.

Thomson, 30, can play at full back or in midfield, and was a key man in the City side that finished runners-up in League 2 in each of the last two seasons.

An under-21 international when with Hearts, Thomson also played for Kelty Hearts before joining Edinburgh City in 2017.

Since his arrival at Ainslie Park, Thomson has helped the Citizens move away from being a side trying to dodge the lower reaches of League 2 into a team challenging for promotion.

Last season City got to the League 1 promotion play-off final, where they lost narrowly to Dumbarton and Thomson was an important figure in the Citizens’ achieving their final status.

Gary Bollan welcomed the right sided player aboard: “Craig can play at full-back but is equally happy in midfield and will be a very valuable player for us.”

He is certain to be involved in the match with Dundee United this evening, along with striker Liam Buchanan.

Bollan felt that the proposed Falkirk game at Westfield on Saturday was coming too soon for his squad and it was decided to scrap the idea.

Extra training sessions were held on Saturday and he feels his men are ready to start playing games and after the Dundee United fixture, Cowdenbeath will take on West of Scotland League side Pollok, in Glasgow, this coming Saturday.

Pollok took a season out in 2020-21, due to the Covid restrictions, but are now ready to get back into action and have already sold a lot of tickets for their match with the Blue Brazil, and it is sure to be a keenly con tested fixture.
