JERMAIN DEFOE is confident he will continue to prove his worth in the Rangers attack after opening his Premiership account this term against Livingston.
Defoe added to Joe Aribo’s opener to clinch a 2-0 win for Steven Gerrard’s side as he collected a long ball from James Tavernier and produced a superb finish.
It was the 300th goal of Defoe’s club career and a sign that he is ready to play his part for the Light Blues as they look to capitalise on their six point lead at the top of the table.
Defoe said: “I don’t know [how many more I can score]. It is no different to collectively as a team, you take each game as it comes. I have always believed I could score goals, even as I have got older.
“Sometimes it is good when people say ‘oh, can he still do it?’ because you find that fire inside you. Not to prove people wrong, but it is always nice to show people that you can still do it and still score at this level. It is never easy.
“I always approach every game like it is the last game or a cup final. It is never easy, so that is why you have to train well and get into good habits.
“Score goals in training, do the other bits and pieces in the gym, manage your body, eating well and sleeping well. Just trying to do everything so that if I get a chance I can take it.”
