Rangers legend Alex McLeish has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was once considering a move for Barry Ferguson at Manchester United.

The former Light Blues skipper sealed a dream Premier League move to Blackburn Rovers after starring at Ibrox.

And he continued to impress south of the border, with a number of dominant displays in the middle of the park in England's top flight.

McLeish managed Ferguson both for club and country and he's told how his performances caught the eye of the legendary Sir Alex.

Speaking to Si Ferry on Open Goal, McLeish said: "There was a spell when Barry was at Blackburn and Alex Ferguson said he was considering going for him.

“He told me that privately and he definitely thought about it.

“I don’t know if was around when Roy Keane left but he certainly did consider Barry.

“Barry could play any stadium in the world and not be fazed. He had such a belief in himself.”
