Alex Rae has compared Rangers defender Leon Balogun to his former Ibrox teammate Marvin Andrews.

The ex-Gers midfielder has been impressed with Balogun since he joined from Wigan Athletic and admitted he is a big fan of the 32-year-old's aggression in the tackle. The central defender hobbled off in Gers' 3-0 win over St Johnstone last night.

But he did well on his first-team debut last week against Aberdeen at Pittodrie with his full-blooded style. And Rae believes he is not too dissimilar to Andrews - who also loved a strong challenge.

"Balogun has been absolutely outstanding since he came," Rae told Rangers TV as part of the new punditry setup. "He's so aggressive, I absolutely love it."

"You get guys that get tight and they are trying to anticipate, and you are constantly on the front foot against a centre-forward. They hate it and you almost wear them down. And this guy is getting great through the back.

"He reminds me of big Marvin a lot when he is happy to hit the back of people and everything, there's people's bodies lying everywhere, it is brilliant."
