Celtic new boy Albian Ajeti has revealed Moi Elyounoussi tried to convince him to join the club - but he needn't have bothered.

The striker signed a four-year deal at Parkhead this afternoon from West Ham and immediately told how his former Basel teammate Elyounoussi pestered him with phone calls and texts the minute he heard of interest.

For Ajeti, however, there was never any question about whether or not he'd join Celtic when they came calling, contrary to recent reports. It had been suggested that Ajeti was unconvinced with the Scottish Premiership. However the Swiss international explained that he was always ready to join the club.

Asked about Elyounoussi, Ajeti said: "He called me and text me a couple of times because he knew my situation and he knows me as a player, so he really tried to convince me. But it wasn't needed because it was just a matter of time until everything was done at Celtic.

"I hope he assists me some goals. We played very well together at Basel, we've been successful together, we scored a couple of goals. He assisted me and I assisted him. I'm really looking forward to playing with him again."

Ajeti was personally contacted by Celtic boss Neil Lennon as the manager outlined his plans, a classy touch, according to the player. And another reason he felt like Glasgow would be the perfect place for him to play his football. Likely to partner with Odsonne Edouard, Ajeti simply wants game time after struggling for minutes at West Ham in the Premier League last season.

"I want to play, which is the most important thing, I think the gaffer knows that," he added. "I'm a hard worker on and off the pitch and have a good attitude always. This matches perfect with Celtic football club so I'm really looking forward to improving myself in the next couple of years, being successful with the team and showing all the good emotions.

"As a football player, especially as a striker, you need confidence and if you don't have that you need to win it back. I was happy the gaffer called me, it made it easier for me to come and sign for Celtic."
