COWDENBEATH'S board have been getting increasing information on how they are going to have to tackle the Covid-19 testing issue as the new season approaches.

The club understands that they will have to appoint a Covid co-ordinator, who will be responsible for putting in place the mechanism which will allow the club to carry out tests and also how match day arrangements will differ from the past.

The club will also need another official to help ensure that the arrangements work effectively and help with testing.

The bottom line is that it is going to add to the club's running costs, but at least the £50,000 that has come to the club through the benefactor that has put a considerable sum into Scottish football during the summer to assist with the problems caused by coronavirus, will help offset this.

Club secretary, David Allan, said that one thing has become clear to them, that match days will be very different at Central Park.

"Information is becoming clearer now and we will have to have a couple of people on board who can ensure that our Covid testing mechanism works well," said David.

"They will have to be medical people and we will need to recruit them in time for the re-start of training at the beginning of September.

"Matchdays will also be so different from the past as players normally come into the ground and mix freely with fans and club officials.

"But this season they will have to avoid such activities and stay in what will be a team type bubble with the backroom staff.

"At present it is not easy to see how it will all work, but like everything else once it gets up and running a sort of normal pattern will emerge."

Meanwhile the club is hoping to agree terms with and sign the furloughed players that manager Gary Bollan wants to be part of the squad for next season, within the next couple of weeks.

Added David: "We hope to be able to approach the players very soon and get the process in motion so that before September 1 we will have the players fixed up."

Football Nation hope to release the new Cowdenbeath home strip at the end of this week.
