Elgin City 3, Cowdenbeath 2.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-512

ELGIN caught out Cowden last night just two minutes after the Blues had equalised at Borough Briggs in last night's re-arranged match.

And the result saw City move above Cowdenbeath into third spot in the table, albeit the Fifers have a game in hand.

Added to that the visitors ended up with ten men when Jamie Todd picked up a second yellow card in time added on and striker Kris Renton had to go off after 23 minutes with a knock.

The Blue Brazil had an attacking side out with Jordan Allan recalled to the front line joining David Cox and Renton, while Chris Hamilton was back in the team and in three minutes Cox tested the Elgin 'keeper, then four minutes later the visitors went ahead.

Renton was the provider and ALLAN fired a right foot shot, from around 10 yards, wide of 'keeper McHale.

Elgin came back immediately and Brian Cameron twice shot wide, then Renton went off to be replaced by Graham Taylor.

Josh Rae was having a busy evening and he saved well from Danny MacKay and then denied Ross Graham while at the other end Fraser Mullen saw his shot blocked.

Then on the interval whistle Allan saw McHale have to look lively to deal with his shot from all of 35 yards.

Cowden had to start the second-half well but in 48 minutes City levelled. Kyle Miller handled just outside the Cowden box and from the free-kick Archie MacPHEE fired into the bottom corner of the net.

Cowden replied and Cox saw his right foot shot blocked by a City defender but in 56 minutes Cowdenbeath went behind.

Graham provided the opening and Shane SUTHERLAND flashed the ball past Rae.

Jordyn SHEERIN went on for Archie Thomas for Cowden on the hour and in the 66th minute he squared the game.

Elgin could not pin down the big striker as he lashed an unsaveable shot past McHale from close in after the 'keeper blocked a Cox shot.

This should have seen Cowdenbeath on the ascendancy, but two minutes later Elgin struck again. MacPhee provided the cross and no visiting defender was picking up CAMERON and his header beat Rae.

This took the wind out of the visiting challenge and Rae had to make two good saves late in the game before Todd's red card.
