ANOTHER postponement on Saturday saw Cowdenbeath starting to build-up a fixture backlog which is not helping their efforts to get back onto a winning run which can give their hopes of making the promotion play-offs good momentum.

There were high hopes on Friday that the match with Elgin City would go ahead as Boroughbriggs had escaped much of the rain which had battered the central parts of the country.

However, on Saturday morning not only did rain arrive in the Elgin area, but a fair amount of snow started to fall and the referee felt things were only going to get worse and worse.

It left manager Gary Bollan and his squad now hoping that the postponed match with Albion Rovers would go ahead on Tuesday at Cliftonhill.

Cowden were left on Saturday night having three matches outstanding and facing heading up north on a Tuesday or Wednesday night.

But the manager is just hoping that his team can get back into some regular action starting with this weekend's home game with Edinburgh City.

The Ainslie Parkers have stayed firmly in second top spot in the table but Cowdenbeath beat the City Slickers 1-0 at Central Park the last time the White and Blacks came across the Queensferry Crossing and Mr Bollan is looking for a similar result this Saturday.

But he knows full well that the team have to improve greatly on their performance against Stirling Albion.

"It has been a little frustrating to have these sprinkling of postponements because it does upset the flow of games," said the manager.

"However, we know that we have to get back to winning regularly to ensure that we stay in a prominent position in the race for the play-off places.

"Teams like Elgin City, Queen's Park and Stirling have been putting together some good result and while we have been stuttering a bit we are still in the top four and if we do our business correctly then we don't have to worry about what the other teams are doing.

"Edinburgh City are a very good side but we handled the challenge they provided well the last time they were here and that has to be our target this Saturday."

The manager was disappointed that Chris Hamilton's appeal failed against his dismissal against Stirling and he will have to do without the local teenager for the City game.

However, he has plenty of options with Jamie Pyper and Harvey Swann ready to come into the defence.

A key player in this game will be Graham Taylor (pictured) who was signed from City last summer and the midfielder could carry real threat to his old side from midfield.

Said Mr Bollan: "We have to ensure we do not make any silly mistakes, for a team like City will punish you if give them soft chances and that was a clear problem against Stirling."

Midfielder Mikey Herd is fit again and will be challenging for an engineroom berth alongside Robbie Buchanan, Kyle Miller and Taylor.

Next Tuesday night Cowden are at home to Albion Rovers with a 7.45pm start in one of their re-arranged fixtures.
