COWDENBEATH are in the middle of a busy spell after their three week lay-off and they go to Brechin on Saturday looking to get another three points on the board.

Cowden’s draw with Elgin kept them well ahead of the northern side (8 points) in their bid for a top four finish but Annan won again on Saturday to close within two points of the Blues’ third spot.

Cowdenbeath could have won Saturday’s game and seemed to have a perfectly good goal disallowed.

Jamie Todd powered a header into the net early in the game but the referee blew for a foul which puzzled the home players and the fans.

Indeed, manager Gary Bollan was also mystified: “It looked a good goal, Jamie got above their cover and his header looped over the ‘keeper but the ref ruled it out.

“I felt over the 90 minutes we had the better of the game, in admittedly difficult conditions.

“Especially in the second-half, when Jordan Allan came on, we started to stretch them and there were a few good chances for us but we could not get it over the line.”

The manager was particularly happy with the way his defence coped with the threat of Kane Hester and Shaun Sutherland and recording a shut-out.

“They are a particularly dangerous duo but we handled the situation excellently and really blunted their challenge,” he added.

“The longer the game went the more we took charge of midfield area and I felt had we got the winner we would have been worth it.”

The manager is determined that his team keep picking up points and is looking for the Blues to win at Glebe Park this Saturday.

In saying that, City themselves managed to win convincingly at Stirling on Saturday so confidence will be returning to the side who are currently bottom of the table.

Said the Cowden boss: “Brechin will have got a lift from their win at Stirling and will be ready to have a go at us but if we want to get a winning run going we have to look to go to places like Brechin and win.

“If we can show the some determination, and good solid defensive performance that we had against Elgin, we can look to get the result we want.”

Cowden will still be without David Cox, who will serve the last of his three game suspension spell, at Brechin, but Jordan Allan was looking back to his old self against Elgin on Saturday and will likely feature up front with Kris Renton but Kyle Miller is currently missing.
