COWDENBEATH will be hoping that they can get back into action this Saturday after missing playing on successive weekends.

The Blues’ match at Coatbridge, against Albion Rovers, was the only one in Ladbrokes League 2 to be postponed on Saturday due to the heavy overnight frost in Lanarkshire.

And while Cowden were idle again, after missing the previous weekend due to their early Scottish Cup exit, it allowed Queen’s Park and Annan Athletic to close the gap on them in the race for a top four finish.

On the plus side both the top two, Cove Rangers and Edinburgh City lost, indeed Cove shipped six at Annan, easily their heaviest loss of the season.

It is likely the Albion Rovers match will be played on Tuesday December 10 and if Cowdenbeath can beat both Elgin City, at Central Park on Saturday, and Rovers, they could go ahead of City and close in on Cove.

However, first things first, they have to look to beat Elgin, who lost at home to Stirling Albion at the weekend, at Central Park on Saturday.

Cowden boss Gary Bollan was frustrated at the Albion Rovers postponement but was not at all surprised.

He said: “After being out of action the previous weekend we were desperately looking forward to getting back into action but the weather forecast did suggest severe frost and there was no real surprise at the referee’s decision on Saturday forenoon.

“Hopefully we can get going again this weekend and it is a very important fixture against Elgin.

“It seems a long time ago since our win against Queen’s Park, but we have to look to start stringing together another run of victories to re-assert pressure on the top two.

“Elgin will also have their eyes on the top four so it is very important that we win this one and get our campaign moving ahead again.”

Cowden lost to Elgin in the first match of the season up north before going on their six game winning run which pushed them into top four territory.

City have a dangerous front line, with Shane Sutherland continuing to hit the target regularly but they have been losing goals and Cowden will look to carve out chances this weekend.

They will be without the suspended David Cox, sent off three weeks ago against QP, but Jordan Allan is fit again and is likely to replace Cox and partner Kris Renton up front.

The manager may well go with youngster Chris Hamilton in central midfield alongside Robbie Buchanan, for this one after the duo’s impressive performance against Queen’s in that department.
