Broxburn Athletic 3, Cowdenbeath 0.

William Hill Scottish Cup 2nd round replay

Attendance-1059

THERE will be no Scottish Cup glamour tie for Cowden this season after Saturday’s very poor performance at Albyn Park.

Even with striker Kris Renton and goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski back in the ranks, this was not a good show by the Blue Brazil

They saw plenty of the ball for most of the game but did little, had a few really good openings, but the finishing was poor, while at the other end they contrived to give away two penalties and gave away another bad goal.

Did the rather bare plastic pitch play its part? Perhaps some of the Cowden players were uncomfortable on it, but overall it was not a good show.

Dabrowski saved one of the penalties and made a couple of good saves, but the men in front of him seemed to struggle at times.

Overall a day to forget and for the gallant travelling contingent of fans they saw little to get enthused over.

Cowden had a chance in 14 minutes when skipper David Cox was in a good position in the Broxburn box but he dragged his finish wide.

On the half hour the striker had another chance but this time he fired it wide of the other post, however, soon after he brought Connor Wallace into action with a shot which was well saved by the ‘keeper.

At this stage Cowdenbeath had certainly the better of things and Archie Thomas and Craig Barr both saw efforts off target.

Broxburn had their first real opening in 36 minutes when Craig Scott got space on the edge of the Cowden box but shot wide.

In 42 minutes Cowden went behind. Broxburn’s Greg Binnie was fouled by Jamie Pyper in the Cowden box and Zander MILLER made an expert job of the spot-kick and at the break the Blues were one down.

Miller was first to have a go at the start of the second period when he found space 20 yards out from Dabrowski but fired wide, then in 54 minutes Barr got another chance, after a corner situation, but his close in shot skewed wide.

Cowden forced another corner and Pyper rose well eight yards out but guided his header past the post.

However, in 62 minutes Broxburn got another penalty when Miller went down in the box but the striker saw Dabrowski save well this time from his spot-kick.

Soon after Graham Taylor was replaced by Jordan Allan but it was Broxburn who were to get the goal.

In 72 minutes SCOTT was given too much space a couple of yards outside the Cowden box and his shot flew over Dabrowski.

Cowden were at sixes and sevens now as their cup campaign was looking in serious jeopardy and in 82 minutes it was over.

Sub Ross Nimmo created the opening for Connor KELLY, who was not closed down and he coolly gave Dabrowski no chance.

Cowden did go close in the closing seconds when Cox saw his shot saved by Wallace but it would only have been a consolation had it gone in.

An altogether very disappointing day for Cowdenbeath.
