A TRIP to Hampden awaits Cowdenbeath on Saturday and the chance to record their fourth success Ladbrokes League 2 win.

Saturday’s win at Stenhousemuir pushed the Blues into clear third top spot and three points clear of Queen’s Park, so this weekend’s game is an important one as the Blues try to establish themselves as top four contenders.

Cowden went to Ochilview and took a grip of the game from the start and had a host of very good chances created by some excellent play.

Again young teenagers Connor Smith and Chris Hamilton more than pulled their weight and with Kyle Miller and Archie Thomas looking the part in the centre of midfield the Blues were a potent force.

However, ‘keeper Kevin Dabrowski (pictured) picked up an injury late in the game in a clash with former Cowden skipper David Marsh and it means he will be out for at least four weeks.

Manager Gary Bollan was very happy with the overall performance but most unhappy with the injury to his ‘keeper: “We worked very hard and not only that we played well and scored good goals which was good to see from the lads.

“They again played with confidence and moved the ball about well and it was an overall very pleasing performance.

“Kevin took a hefty knock, and an unnecessary one from David Marsh late in the game, and has sustained a fracture to his cheek bone and will be out for around four weeks.

“Kevin has been having a great season and this is a major blow to the squad. It means we will have to search for a replacement for the matches coming up.

“He has been a highly consistent performer since he joined up with us on loan from Hibs and it was a wholly unnecessary challenge from David Marsh.”

Turning his eye to this weekend’s match with Queen’s Park, where a win would put Cowden six points clear in third spot, the boss said: “Queen’s Park enjoy playing on the big Hampden pitch but I feel we can match them. We like to move the ball about too and we have players with pace so it should be a very interesting game. We want to keep our unbeaten run going and it will be a tough task but one we can tackle if we maintain the level of performance of recent weeks.”

Cowdenbeath have almost a full squad to pick from for the Queen’s Park game with Mikey Herd the only player definitely out, apart from Dabrowski, after his injury against Annan where his studs caught in the turf.

But he is recovering and has returned to training and Jordan Allan and David Cox both were back in action against Stenny and looked in good shape. Mr Bollan began his search for a ‘keeper on Tuesday and hopes to fix up an experienced man before kick-off.
