KELTY athletics star Bethany McAndrew was in the medals as she competed at a national final last weekend.

The 19-year-old, who in July won a bronze medal in the 4x100 metre relay while running for Scotland at the Welsh Under-20 International in July, repeated the trick at the Upper Youth Development League National Final.

Pitreavie AAC member Bethany was one of several athletes from her club who were competing for Kingdom Athletic, a composite team of under-17 and under-20 competitors from Pitreavie, Fife AC and Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, at the two-day event at Sportcity in Manchester.

Kingdom secured their place at the meet after winning the Northern Premier Division title in June, and joined Team Edinburgh in representing the North at the six-team final.

They were joined by London clubs, Blackheath and Bromley, and Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, who represented the South; and Team Avon and Birchfield Harriers, who represented the Midlands, and McAndrew produced one of 26 medals for Pitreavie representatives.

In the 100m hurdles, in the under-20 age group, she crossed the line in third place in a time of 16.44 seconds, finishing just behind Blackheath and Bromley's Mallory Cluley, who was second in 14.20, and Avon's Jenna Blundell, who topped the podium in 13.86.

The former Beath High School pupil also competed in the long jump, where she finished fifth overall with a leap of 5.03m.

The efforts of Bethany and her team-mates helped Kingdom to a fifth place finish overall, collecting a total of 564.5 points, as Blackheath and Bromley took the title with 903.

Kingdom's team manager, Paul Allan, said: "For a team our size to make the National Final is a huge achievement, and to finish in fifth is an excellent performance by everyone."
