COWDENBEATH’S first public pre season game saw a 3-0 defeat at the hands of League One side Airdrie at the Penny Cars Stadium, on Saturday, writes Ross Cameron.

Gary Bollan fielded his five new signings in his starting line up – Kevin Dabrowski, Craig Barr, Michael Herd, Archie Thomas and Euan Valentine. In a first-half of few chances, the Diamonds went ahead through Dean HAWKSHAW’s 32nd minute strike following a quick counter attack.

David Cox had Cowden’s best opportunity of the first 45 but his effort was well saved.

Two minutes into the second-half and the Diamonds doubled their advantage when a cross from the left by O’Reilly was headed home by former Cowden loanee Dale CARRICK.

Robbie Buchanan had a chance to pull one back almost immediately when he was played through by Jordyn Sheerin but he delayed too long which allowed a defender to get back and block his finish.

Buchanan had the Fifers next opportunity as well but dragged his effort wide from Valentine's Cross in the 68th minute.

A mix-up between Dabrowski and Pyper presented Ally Roy with a chance to extend Airdrie's lead but the big Pole tipped Roy's effort round the post.

The home side did add a third with the last kick of the game when Cammy RUSSELL cut in from the right and hit a powerful effort past the trialist goalkeeper who replaced Dabrowksi.
