Albion Rovers 1,

Cowdenbeath 0.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-322

A MIXTURE of good goalkeeping and off target finishing by the Blues ensured that Albion Rovers got the points at Cliftonhill last night which took them off the bottom of the table for the first time this season.

Cowdenbeath deserved to take something from the game for they totally dominated the second period but a series of superb saves from home 'keeper Morrison defied them.

Albion certainly have a lot more go about them now and they are starting to get the rub of the green which eluded them earlier this season but unless Cowden can get their shooting boots back on they will finish at best third bottom.

With Dave McGurn suffering a bereavement Aaron Lennox returned and did well enough but most of the question marks over the visiting performance came from their work going forward.

Despite having almost 60 per cent possession throughout the game and nearer 70 in the second period they only mustered five telling efforts at goal.

Albion, seeking their third straight win, started brightly and in 10 minutes Lewis Wilson shot over from close in but within minutes at the other end a Gary Fraser piledriver was beaten away by Morrison.

In 19 minutes a Fraser corner had Rovers in trouble and Kris Renton latched onto the ball and his 15 yarder was well saved by Morrison then shortly before the break Blair Malcolm found David Cox and somehow Morrison blocked the striker's shot with his legs.

Then just before the whistle Declan BYRNE'S 20 yard rocket gave Lennox no chance and the Blues were behind at half-time.

Lennox did well in 54 minutes to save well from Gregor Fotheringham but Cox tested Morrison again and then with eight minutes left Luc Bollan though he had levelled with a fierce header but Morrison somehow finger tipped the ball over.

Another defeat and Cowden have only two points from their last seven games.
