Cowdenbeath 0, Edinburgh City 2.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-331

THE league leaders just had too much sharpness for a battling Blue Brazil at Central Park on Saturday.

Cowdenbeath were always asking questions of the City side but they missed a couple of good chances which proved costly and then conceded two bad goals.

Dave McGurn had a good game for Cowdenbeath, but he had no chance with the goals, however, the home defence did not have a good day overall.

Also in midfield things did not go particularly smoothly for the Blues as they struggled to create a consistent run of chances.

In the first minute Jordan Allan went down in a challenge by Conrad Balatoni in the City box but the referee waved aside penalty claims.

Then minutes later Balatoni was left for dead by Allan and he pulled the striker back but only received a yellow.

In 14 minutes a Gary Fraser ball into the box saw Balatoni send the ball straight to Kris Renton only 14 yards out and his finish curled inches wide.

But in 20 minutes City scored in their first attack. Graham Taylor sent over a low cross from the left, and with Scott Shepherd waiting at the far post Jason TALBOT slid the ball into his own net trying to clear.

Then seven minutes later Blair Henderson hit a post with a low shot after David Marsh hesitated in making a clearance.

Six minutes from the break an Allan pass sent Renton clean through and it took brave work by Calum Antell to deny the striker.

Three minutes after the break Josh Skelly sent a peach of a cross into the City six yard box but Allan just failed to turn it home.

However, in City’s first serious attack of the second period they got a second goal. In 56 minutes a long throw was not dealt with by the Cowden defence and Blair HENDERSON’S powerful header beat McGurn.

Then with 23 to go Talbot was given a straight red card for a tackle on City’s Robbie McIntyre and it effectively ended the home challenge.
