Cowdenbeath 1, Clyde 1.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-373

A MUCH improved second-half performance by Cowdenbeath earned them a point from the Bully Wee.

Cowden were pretty ordinary in the first period on Saturday, with their 3-5-2 formation not working properly, and the visitors having almost all the possession.

Some good work by ‘keeper Dave McGurn kept Cowdenbeath in the game but in the second period it became a more even game.

Jordan Allan came on for the injured Blair Malcolm in 39 minutes and he pepped up the home challenge and squared the game.

Skipper David Marsh and Robbie Deas came onto a game after a shaky start and helped reduce the threat of the dangerous David Goodwillie.

The midfield started to take charge and chances began to come for Cowden.

Clyde had the first shot at goal in the third minute when Kevin Nicoll sent in a fierce 22 yard left foot drive which had McGurn diving to save then Barry Cuddihy sent over a cross from the right and David Goodwillie got his head to it and McGurn held on to the ball.

Then in nine minutes Goodwillie’s 30 yard free-kick cannoned off McGurn’s left hand post, but the first goal came seven minutes later.

Goodwillie’s pass inside was perfect for John RANKIN to fire a fierce left foot shot past McGurn from 14 yards.

In 20 minutes Cowdenbeath had their first shot at goal when a slack clearance was met first time by Fraser Mullen and Blair Currie made a fine diving save from his 20 yarder.

Then eight minutes later Gary Fraser’s free-kick was met by Deas and his header roared just wide.

But Clyde attacked again and 10 minutes from the break McGurn saved well from Mark Lamont then seconds from the whistle Cuddihy warmed McGurn’s gloves with a fierce 25 yarder.

Clyde started the second period well and McGurn grabbed Rankin’s low shot but in 52 minutes the Blues levelled. Kyle Miller’s pass caught the Clyde defence square and sub Jordan ALLAN coolly slotted the ball past Currie.

In 68 minutes Fraser provided a lovely cross and Deas should have done better than head wide from seven yards. Kris Renton and Allan went close but with 15 minutes left Goodwillie let fly from 25 yards and McGurn saved superbly then a minute later he held a Scott Rumsby header as Clyde fought back.
