Cowdenbeath 1, Elgin City 2.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-310

A GOAL in time added on saw Cowden slump to defeat at Central Park on Saturday.

Cowdenbeath just could not get the second goal they needed and the dangerous Shane Sutherland grabbed the winner with literally the last kick of the game.

The first-half saw the Blues dominate possession and create some good chances but Elgin looked dangerous on the counter attack.

Cowdenbeath’s changed midfield started fairly effectively but the longer the game went the more City started to get a grip of this area.

David Marsh played this one in the middle of the park with Martin Scott and Blair Malcolm and they seemed to run out of steam late on.

Kris Renton and Jordyn Sheerin started up front and posed problems for City but the second goal would not come.

In seven minutes, from Jordan Lowdon’s corner, Shane Sutherland’s flick just rolled wide as City attacked.

In 11 minutes Renton set up Sheerin but his 22 yarder roared wide, then six minutes later Brian Cameron’s 18 yarder was only inches too high.

In 21 minutes Renton took advantage of a terrible error by the Elgin defence and his pass inside to David Cox had ‘keeper Gourlay stranded but the forward’s finish was blocked by a sliding Darryl McHardy.

Cowden took the lead in 27 minutes when Harvey Swann’s shot was blocked but MALCOLM, following up, fired a lovely 22 yarder wide of Kyle Gourlay.

Five minutes from the break Greg Morrison took advantage of a Jamie Pyper slip but his fierce 18 yarder was brilliantly blocked by Dave McGurn.

Terrible defending allowed City to level two minutes after the break. No defender picked up MORRISON on the edge of the Cowdenbeath box and he rounded McGurn and rolled the ball into the net.

But Cowden came back into and Cox saw a goalbound effort hit an Elgin leg near the line and then Marsh saw a close in shot fly inches wide.

With 15 minutes left Gourley pulled off a brilliant save from Martin Scott’s low eight yarder

It looked a certain draw then in the third minute of time added on the home off-side trap misfired and SUTHERLAND fired home and the game was lost.
