COWDENBEATH can forget the rigours of league football for a weekend when they turn their attention to the William Hill Scottish Cup this Saturday.

Unfortunately the Blues face another Ladbrokes League 2 team in round two of the competition in the shape of Clyde, but at least they have home advantage.

Over the past two seasons Cowden have faced non league opposition in the shape of East Kilbride and have lost both ties 1-0, so the Blue Brazil will be looking to win this tie against the Bully Wee and seek to get to the money spinning stage of the cup this term.

However, manager Gary Bollan is looking for a better performance than he saw from his men at Elgin.

He was disappointed to see his team lose an early lead and then concede two goals in the second-half.

Said the boss: “We made a really good start to the game, took an early lead through a good strike from David Cox and then seemed to fall out of things.

“We totally switched off at the second goal just five minutes into the second-half and we seem to be back to doing that at key times in games which has a big impact on results.

“Losing Dave McGurn when he caught their player was a real blow for we did not have Ryan Goodfellow on Saturday and Jamie Pyper had to go in the nets for the last 15 minutes but the damage had been done by then.”

He added: “It was a bit disappointing after doing well in the first period but losing the goal so early in the second-half was a big blow and we could have avoided that.

“It was a bad goal to lose and we never really got to grips with things after that.”

So he is looking for better in the Scottish Cup this Saturday. He said: “We will have to look to win this game to give us a chance of getting into the stages of the competition where we could get a plum draw.

“The cup can earn valuable revenue for the club and that has to be our aim.

“Clyde are a good side from our division but when we played them at Broadwood early in the campaign we played really well in the second-half and should really have got something from the match.

“So we know that we can match them and have to look to play with the same attitude and concetration that earned us the win over Stirling Albion.”

The manager is likely to bring Gary Fraser back into the starting line-up for this important tie having signed the midfielder.

He will not be available for the trip to Berwick the following week but he is taking it one game at a time and is seeking a win from this match and he feels that Fraser can give Cowdenbeath the edge in midfield.

Dave McGurn will also be suspended for the trip to the Borders after his red card at Elgin, but is available for the cup tie.

Cowdenbeath will be seeking to win the tie at Central Park as their away form has been a little frail so far this season and will want to avoid a replay.
