COWDEN head for Elgin this Saturday looking for a win to challenge for the top four in Ladbrokes League 2.

Their win over Stirling has seen them close to three points on sixth-placed Queen’s Park and boss Gary Bollan wants a repeat of the determination shown in the victory over Stirling Albion at Central Park on Saturday.

He said: “We started the game really well and scored in only six minutes and could have had another but then we saw Gary Fraser get red-carded after only 27 minutes.

“It meant we had to reduce our firepower to get another midfielder on and it completely ruined our planning for the match.

“However, the players really buckled down to the challenge and I felt that our keeper, Dave McGurn, was certainly not overworked and we had openings to add to our tally.

“Overall, it was a really good three points and we have to look to go to Elgin and aim to win again by showing the same sort of determination and organisation.

“If we keep picking up points, we can get right in amongst the middle pack of clubs and that has to be our aim.”

Scorer of the winner against Stirling, skipper David Marsh, backed up the manager’s thoughts on the weekend: “Beating Stirling was so important and I felt that we really worked hard to deny them space after going down to 10 men to such an extent that they had few chances.

“And at the same time, we could have added to our total. It was good to score but later in the game I had the opportunity to give the ball to Martin Scott who could have made it 2-0 but I felt I could score myself and my header went just too high. My fault.

“However, we got the points and our aim has to be to start a run which sees us collect points and move up to challenge the top four.”

Saturday’s game was Fraser’s third and last as a trialist and Bollan is considering this week whether or not to add him to his squad.

He would not be available for the Elgin game anyway with his dismissal but Kyle Miller looks a certain starter in the midfield up north after doing well when coming on as substitute on Saturday and with no injures there will be few changes.
