Dunbar United 0 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 1

East of Scotland League Conference A

HAWS boss Kevin Fotheringham was pleased with his team’s character after they held off Dunbar United to bounce back from cup disappointment last midweek.

The Keirs Park outfit travelled to East Lothian on the back of a 3-2 third round Alex Jack Cup exit to Haddington Athletic last Wednesday and maintained their winning start in the league.

Daniel Watt’s strike on 61 minutes proved enough to make it three wins from three for Hill of Beath, and Fotheringham commented: “In terms of the performance, we were a wee bit better than last Wednesday against Haddington.

“I had a couple of boys back and, although we’re still not where we need to be, we looked more of a unit.

“We showed good character.”

Dalkeith Thistle 2 Crossgates Primrose 1

East of Scotland League Conference B

IT was not to be a winning return to action for Crossgates Primrose as they were beaten at Dalkeith Thistle.

Alan Campbell’s side had enjoyed a free week leading up to the match at King’s Park but their search for a first league point on the road continues.

Primrose went into the match with one win from three matches in Conference B but their bid for a second was dented when Ryan McQueenie’s 10th minute penalty put the hosts ahead.

Darren McGlashen doubled their advantage before the break and, although Scott Hynd pulled a goal back with four minutes to go, Crossgates just couldn’t find a leveller.

Aberdeen East End 2 Lochgelly Albert 1

Scottish Junior Cup first round

LOCHGELLY Albert saw their Scottish Junior Cup dreams dashed in the cruellest of fashions as they lost out in stoppage time.

Mark Adam’s header won it for the North Region Super League side after the visitors had fought valiantly with 10 men since the 14th minute.

Captain Pat Armour was deemed, controversially, to have denied a goalscoring opportunity and was ordered off, which was compounded by Graeme Wilson opening the scoring 10 minutes later.

But, two minutes after the break, the Berts restored parity when Byron McGuigan rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home.

However, just as they looked set to earn a replay back in Fife, Adam struck for the North Region Super League side with just seconds left.

Lochgelly secretary Ian Patrick commented:”If we had 11 men, I’d have fancied our chances but, in the 91st minute, they played a corner short, they crossed it and the guy headed it in.

“It was a sore one to take.”

Lochore Welfare 2 Fauldhouse United 4

Scottish Junior Cup first round

WELFARE’S Scottish Junior Cup ambitions are also over for another season after an entertaining tie with Super League cracks Fauldhouse.

In a tight first half, Davy Byrne struck for the home side as the teams went in level at the break.

However, the visitors turned the match their way and moved 3-1 up before Joe Kinnonmonth netted a second for Welfare.

A fourth Fauldhouse goal clinched the tie and sent Lochore out.
