BLUE Brazil supporter Zoe Smith handed over another massive cheque to her beloved team on Saturday after scoring £3,000 in donations.

The latest contribution to Cowden’s 135 appeal means she has now raised a staggering £14,000 to help the club. The 32-year-old from Edinburgh completed a Tough Mudder for the cause last month and is constantly trying to get donations for the club’s sportsman’s dinner.

“I became involved with Cowdenbeath through the chairman, Donald Findlay, I just wanted to help out and really enjoy doing it,” she said.

“I am there every week. The funding goes towards the club, the players, the general upkeep and stuff like that. I am just going to continue and hopefully get a lot more.

"For the auction we have donations from people like Anthony Joshua and Andy Murray, his grandad was a goalkeeper for Cowdenbeath so he always gives us things like signed rackets.”

Zoe has also persuaded sportspeople from around the country to to donate a minimum of £10 to the 135 Club’s scheme.

She added: “I have got ex-footballers like Neil Lennon, Alex McLeish, Paul Gascoigne, Brendan Rodgers and Derek Johnstone. I go and see them at the football or at various dinners and have had a great response.

"About 4,000 of them have done it, players, managers, boxer Ricky Hatton, the rugby team including Stuart Hogg. I send them all the programme when they are in it to let them see.”

After Saturday’s donation, a club spokesperson said: “She singlehandedly has now raised £14,000 for the appeal – an absolutely astonishing effort and one that every Cowdenbeath fan should be truly grateful for.

"We can only thank Zoe once again from everyone at Central Park. She is an example as to just what can be achieved by one committed individual.”
