Queen’s Park 0, Cowdenbeath 0.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-534

A GOALLESS game at Hampden on Saturday but both sides had chances to win it and it is a better point for Cowden than the Spiders.

This was a very even match in terms of possession but it would be fair to say that Queen’s had the better chances.

However, Cowdenbeath defended very effectively as a unit and Dave McGurn had a fine game in goal.

Defensively the Blues were solid with Pat Scullion doing excellently throughout the game in the middle and he was well backed up by David Marsh, until injury forced him off, and then Jamie Pyper.

Full-backs Fraser Mullen and Jason Talbot were equally as effective as the central defensive area and also made many telling runs forward putting pressure on the home defence.

In midfield, without suspended Kyle Miller, Robbie Buchanan joined Blair Malcolm and Brad Smith, and for spells they did well, but too often their final pass let them down.

Strikers Martin Scott and fit again Jordyn Sheerin both could have scored although there were fewer chances than in the Berwick match.

Queen’s made a bright start and Willie Mortimer and Scott McLean had shots blocked in the first 10 minutes but in 11 minutes Scott saw his header flash across the Queen’s Park six yard box and ‘keeper Jordan Hart save well.

Three minutes later home ‘keeper Hart made another good save from the former Stenny man, but Queen’s started to come more into the game and McGurn had to be on the alert to save from Kurtis Roberts and Mortimer although, Sheerin got into a good area a few yards out only to see his finish blocked on the edge of the six yard box.

However, before the break the hosts had two more chances for Lewis Hawke which came close.

The Hampden side had the momentum at the start of the second period and McGurn saved well from Scott McLean then Marsh had to go off and Pyper came on.

Cowdenbeath were working hard to deny the home side space and McLean saw his right foot shot from 22 yards blocked then McGurn saved well from Mortimer.

The ‘keeper repeated the dose from a Cammy Foy header but at the other end Robbie Buchanan created good space for himself and from 20 yards blazed over when he should have hit the target.

The closing minutes saw a lot of activity by both sides but no goals.
