FINE away wins for Kelty Hearts and Dundonald Bluebell and a record goal haul for Hill of Beath Hawthorn were the main talking points from Saturday’s football card.

And in the South Division Lochore Welfare produced another goal laden game.

BSC Glasgow 2,

Kelty Hearts 3.

A BATTLING Lowland League performance by Hearts earned three valuable points at the Indodrill Stadium, Alloa.

BSC Glasgow are one of the strong mid-table sides in the Lowland League and they showed in this game that they are no mugs.

The game opened pretty tightly, but Kelty were winning the better possession and there were a few half chances before Stuart Cargill put the visitors ahead with a fine finish.

Glasgow tried hard to come back strongly but the Kelty defence did well and soon after a perfect Stephen Husband cross was bulleted into the net by the head of Cargill.

So Hearts were in the driving seat but BSC pulled one back just before the break.

This opened things up and after the interval both teams had chances to get the key next goal but the ‘keeper’s were in great form.

Then all of a sudden it was BSC Glasgow who hit the net again with a lovely finish which threw the fat in the fire.

To be fair Hearts did not panic and continued to play some good football and both sides went in search of the winner and it came for the Kelty lads when Scott Dalziel finished well to tie up three points for the visitors.

Hearts boss, Thomas Courts, tweeted after the game: “Well done to the players and Ciaran Chalmers for his man of the match award. Got more exciting than it needed to be but a great three points.”

Hill of Beath Hawthorn 16,

Tweedmouth Rangers 0.

THE biggest win in Haws' history and the thing is it could have been by more in this East of Scotland League Conference A game.

The visitors have been perennial strugglers in the EoS League and even although Hill of Beath were six players short of their normal squad it was not long before the Red machine started to wear their opponents down.

Once the first goal went in that set the pattern and more followed quickly and the score at the break was 6-0.

These came from Daniel Watt (2), Calum Adamson (2), Charlie Denton and Shaun Leishman.

Things got even worse for the Borders side in the second period as the home side started to rip huge holes in their defence.

Some brave goalkeeping kept some chances not being converted but Haws were soon past 10 and the goals kept flowing with Adamson taking his personal tally to five.

Other goals came from Michael Watt. Lyle Kellichan, Joe Kirby, Lewis Peddie, Dean Nicol, Lewis Payne, and a Denton, penalty taking the home tally to 16.

Home manager Kevin Fotheringham was pleased with his team’s finishing: “It was a strange affair this one, certainly Tweedmouth were below the standard of sides we have met this season, but to be fair to them that is the most ruthless our finishing has been so far.

“We played some really good stuff and most of the chances created were tucked away which was encouraging but we have a lot sterner tests coming up.”

Haddington Athletic 3,

Dundonald Bluebell 4.

A FANTASTIC away performance from the ‘Bell against a side who are very awkward opponents in East Lothian.

This EoS League Conference B game was literally a game of two halves, with Bluebell completely in control of the first but then Haddington in charge after the break.

Dundonald made the best possible start to the game, with Sean O’Neil making his debut after re-signing for the club.

In four minutes a corner was not cleared by the Athletic and Derek Wallace hit a sweet 12 yard volley wide of the ‘keeper. In nine minutes the second came when a Stuart Walton pass from the right fell to Calum Smith and he picked his spot in the net.

The home side were really struggling and there were other chances for the ‘Bell but in 22 minutes the third came from Michael Ness after a Lewis McKenzie pass.

It looked a case of how many and three minutes later it was four. The home defence simply did not pick up Archie Campbell who slotted the ball home from a McKenzie pass.

However, five minutes into the second period a goal gave Haddington hope and in 58 minutes the travelling fans were starting to get concerned when the hosts grabbed a second.

Then 14 minutes from time another Haddington goal made the closing stages rather nervy for Bluebell people but some good work by James Lennox ensured that there was be no crazy finish to the game.

Bluebell boss Jason Dair was concerned by the way his team fell out of it after the break: “We were superb in the first-half and played some great stuff, however, after that things started to go wrong, but we held on and seven points from three games is a decent start to the programme. ”

Crossgates Primrose 1,

Boness United 2.

ANOTHER close game for the Primrose but Boness just mananged to eak out all three East of Scotland League Conference B points at Humbug Park.

Like in the Football Nation Cup-tie of the previous week Crossgates were always in this game but the highly experienced United team just held on for victory.

Primrose started the game reasonably well but failed to make anything of a couple of half chances and United started to come more into it and got the lead in the first period after a decent piece of work caught out the home rearguard.

Crossgates then conceded a penalty spoon after but it was squandered by the visitors and this gave the home side a boost.

However, they were denied by some good defending and at the interval they were a goal adrift.

They went two down just after the break but came back at United and when Lyall Shaw pulled one back it gave the home fans a lot of hope.

There were more than a few openings for Primrose but somehow Boness held on to take all three points.

Kirkcaldy YM 3,

Lochgelly Albert 0.

A VERY poor defensive performance from the Berts in this South Division game in the Lang Toun.

The trend was set in five minutes when a corner saw the Lochgelly rearguard fail to react quickly enough and the ball was despatched into the net.

Some 16 minutes later things got worse when a YM forward was not picked up and the ball was tucked away.

The Berts had by this stage the bulk of possession but had done very little with it and at the break they were two down.

The second-half saw the Albert continue to dominate but fail to create many chances although in 71 minutes Stan Chitemere got a good shot in which was saved.

Then in then closing stages a long ball was not dealt with by the Albert rearguard and YM nipped in to make it 3-0.

A dark day for the Berts in the Lang Toun.

Lochore Welfare 3,

Harthill Royal 3.

A SOUTH Division thriller at Crosshill where the defences struggled against good quality attacking play.

Lochore got a fine start with a goal from Joe Kinninmonth, after good work from Aaron Woods and Sean Johnstone, but in eight minutes a header from a corner levelled things.

Shortly after Harthill went ahead when, with Logan Donaldson down with a head knock, they got in a header which hit the net, but in 28 minutes a Todd Arthur pass was killed by Johnstone and his shot took a deflection on its way to the net.

But five minutes from the break Harthill went ahead again, although on the break whistle a Woods header brought out a fine save from the ‘keeper.

In the second period there were fewer chances but in 75 minutes Liam Valentine made a fine block for Welfare and the ball was cleared to Johnstone whose sent a lovely shot past the ‘keeper to square the game.

Lochore boss Andy Healy was happy with his side: “Harthill have the experienced Weir brothers pulling the strings for them so were a useful wide but we showed great resilience and fought back twice to get a point".
