COWDENBEATH managed to move up the Ladbrokes League 2 table despite their defeat on Saturday but manager Gary Bollan is asking his players to stop making mistakes which have cost his team badly in the past two weeks.

At Clyde errors saw them lose two avoidable goals, and against Annan, both the Borders side’s goals should not have happened.

When Berwick come to Central Park on Saturday Cowdenbeath desperately need to win to avoid slipping behind the leading seven clubs.

However, there were good points from the game which the manager took on board but he bemoaned losing the lead, against a side who will certainly be in the top half of League 2 this season, within four minutes.

Said Mr Bollan: “We had started the game reasonably well and scored a cracking goal, but within a few minutes we lost the one which simply not have happened.

"Bryan Gilfillan held his hand up, he knew he should have done better in that situation, and the second goal came from a corner.

“We lost a similar goal at Clyde and had worked on how to avoid a repeat, but just after half-time we got caught out again.”

He added: “We cannot continue to give goals away like that for it undoes a lot of the good work going forward.

“We perhaps did not pass the ball as well as we did against Clyde in the second-half, and we had chances to level the game late on but did not get the break we needed in front of goal.”

Results elsewhere saw Cowden move up one place to eighth, with heavy defeats suffered by Albion Rovers and Stirling Albion leaving them below the Blues.

So when Cowden meet Berwick Rangers on Saturday at Central Park the manager is looking for his team to tighten up.

He added: “We are playing some decent stuff but it has not provided a league point yet and that is disappointing to say the least.

“We have to go into Saturday’s game with Berwick looking to get a clean sheet because I feel we will create enough chances to win matches.

“However, it is a difficult enough game without giving the opposition cheap goals.”

Jason Talbot will again be missing on Saturday, while Jamie Pyper, who was down to play against Annan, had to pull out with a shoulder injury after the warm-up, but should make it this week.

The manager expects Talbot to be back within a fortnight and hopes that Pyper will be available this weekend.
