FINAL preparations are being made for a Lochgelly Boxing Show that is set to be a sell out on Friday night.

Glenrothes Boxing Club are putting together an evening of top ring action at the town hall that will feature a number of their talented fighters, including home star Emma McCulloch.

The show, which is set to be the first of its kind held in the town for decades, will pit members of the club against boxers from England in what is being billed as a Scotland v England 'Auld Enemy' event.

Organiser Stevie McGuire, a coach with Glenrothes Boxing Club, said that ticket sales were going well and that the venue was on course to sell out.

He said: "We've got around 50 left out of 200, which is not bad, I would hope that we'll get a big crowd. We've got four confirmed to be coming from down south, another three possibly plus Emma's opponent.

"The event will be focused around Emma and it will be a big thing for her, being her first home town show. We've been getting opponents for Emma and she's been doing really well. I was speaking to Willie Burns (Cardenden Boxing Club) and he can't remember when the last time something like this happened either!

"We'd like to thank Tom Harrower at Diamond Fitness who has been really good in supporting the club and sponsoring tables."

McGuire, who along with Emma coaches Kelty pro star Connor Law, is in the process of matching opponents, who are set to travel from either Middlesbrough or O'Dell's Gym in Birmingham.

Other local stars who train with the club include Cowdenbeath youngster Bradley Innes and Kelty's Dave Winiarski, but national champion Emma is set to be the star attraction.

The talented fighter won the Boxing Scotland Novice Championship elite women 51kg title in November, a feat that ensured she holds Scottish titles at both 51kg and her regular weight of 48kg, and was invited back to the English National Institute of Sport, Sheffield, in September for a GB Boxing 'Emerging Talent' training camp.

Thereafter, she won at the Chairman Mini Box Cup event in Knowsley, Liverpool, before defeating the Portuguese number one and two to win the Odivelas Box Cup, held on the outskirts of Lisbon, in December.

After winning the novice title, Emma told the Times that her ambition was to fight for Scotland at next year's Commonwealth Games, which will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia.

She said: "The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games have introduced new weight categories for women, including under 48kg, so this has given me a more long-term goal to work towards.

"It's good news for women that they are finally introducing more weight categories. There's still some missing though which is unfair for those who fall into these categories, but I think the next Commonwealth Games is a massive but realistic goal. As long as I keep getting regular bouts and winning fights, I'll give myself a chance."

Tickets for the show, which begins at 7.30pm, are available by calling 01592 757900, 07957450322, or by contacting Glenrothes Boxing Club through Facebook.
