TWO Cowdenbeath gymnasts are bouncing high after helping Flyers Trampoline Club have its best ever year, returning with a haul of seven medals from the Scottish National Championships.

Step brother and sister Arran Crawford (11) and Kaiya Ewan (13), from Cowdenbeath, and brothers Leo (9) and Sean Forrest (14), from Dalgety Bay, were in a 10-strong squad competing in the finals, the highest number the club has ever had qualify.

Arran and Leo won gold; Kaiya won silver and Sean picked up a bronze.

And Sean is one of a trio of bouncers the club has competing in the new UK-wide National League, with all three reaching its finals, which take place in Cambridge early next month.

Commenting on what had led to this year’s successes, head coach Lynn Simpson said, “We have changed our preparation methods for competitions and have been trialling a few different techniques to help the gymnasts become comfortable with their routines and produce a level of consistency over the year, which has been our main goal.

“However, they have also all put in an incredible amount of work in training and their success is very well deserved.” Lifting honours at the Scottish national finals were: gold - Oscar Birrell, Arran Crawford and Leo Forrest; silver - Kaiya Ewan and Richard Thompson (10), from Kennoway; bronze - Sean Forrest and Ross Todd (12), from Dollar.

The club, which has members from all over Fife and trains twice a week at Michael Wood Centre, Glenrothes, has regular trials for new members – for more details see facebook.com/flyerstrampolineclub or email flyers_trampoline@yahoo.co.uk
