I READ your article online about Goat Quarry maybe getting a a new lease of life.

This has been part of Crossgates for a lot of years although it is a couple of miles south of the village.

Quite clearly it has been something which Colliers have been able to develop to supply the road repair people with the quality of stone they need for these major repair contracts that take place up and down the country.

I have to say though that I never thought for a minute that it would be something that would go on for another 40 years.

That really gives you an idea of how much quality stone is underground there.

I would reckon by the time Colliers are finished, quantities of stone will have been dug in Goat Quarry for upwards of 90 years, although I might be wrong about that.

They really have been very industrious down there and at the same time are committed to restoration of the ground once areas are worked out.

Also they have been very supportive to the Community Woodland Group who have made a good job of the Taft.

While it won't be something I will see, once the work at the quarry is complete in terms of winning the stone and it is fully restored it is a fair bet it will look really good.

Looks like a win, win situation for Crossgates.
