THE people who have found themselves struggling in the aqua gym at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre have my sympathy.

The fact that they need the water based gym and nothing else is something I have knowledge of, although from a different angle.

If you are building up your body after a replacement operation it is important that the conditions are absolutely right for you.

I had a replacement operation and was given a list of things that I had to do to help rebuild the muscles.

It was important that I did not make any big mistakes as the word 'dislocation' kept rattling inside my head and it was all about each day doing the right thing, although I must admit it was all about road work I faced.

I was fortunate that everything worked out OK, despite a few difficult moments, so I can see how the aqua gym folk are worried they might lose their equipment.

Not having the right equipment to do the activities you need is a major handicap and seeing the equipment diminish is something that is bound to worry folk.

These people have had, it would appear, some good social aspects to their aqua gym work but losing the facility would indeed be very difficult to deal with.

The comments in the Times from the Leisure Trust at least offered some real hope that they will have the aqua gym for some time to come but the thing is that until they see the first item repaired, or the first bit of new equipment, they will think it is never going to come.

I would hope that the Trust is as good as their word although with budgets tight all it needs is a wee problem here or there and the wait could continue.

Hopefully that will not will happen.
