NEALE Hanvey is right to mention Mossmorran in his interview as a new MP.

What, however, is not impressive is that he completely fails to mention the huge role played by local residents forced to endure the appalling impacts of the plant's operation and failures; the Mossmorran Action Group in publicising the issues; and the working group convened by Lesley Laird which brought the operators, regulators (HSE & SEPA), politicians and community representatives to the table.

Let there be no doubt: without the efforts of all these people, nothing would be changing at Mossmorran.

The jury is still out about how much things will change in terms of what the plant's neighbours are forced to endure.

Mr Hanvey is a newbie as far as Mossmorran is concerned, and he needs to be careful about buying into the operators' PR.

"Collaboration and compromise" is not something that can be asked of communities who have never been given a choice, or even basic truthful information, about the dangerous, polluting and harmful operations taking place on their doorsteps.
