WHY bother to warn the public there will be more flaring when Exxon restarts operations at the Fife Ethylene Plant ?

Hasn’t Lesley Laird noticed the continuous flaring since August when Exxon supposedly stopped production?

If she means the flaring is going to be a lot worse when Exxon restarts, why doesn’t she say so?

Like thousands of people who live within the orbit of Mossmorran, I want the flaring to stop, full stop.

Flaring is the burning off of gas which for one reason or another the plant cannot process.

It is pure waste of a precious and limited natural resource. And it is utterly pointless pollution in that the CO2 and other pollutants emitted are not by-products of travel, electricity production or some industrial process which might benefit people.

Millions of tonnes of CO2 must have poured into the atmosphere this year from Mossmorran. The operators obviously earn so much money when they are processing gas that they can afford to waste so much gas.

Why doesn’t Fife Council and the Scottish Government force them to find alternatives to flaring, so helping to save the planet, safeguarding the health of people in neighbouring communities and allowing them to get a decent night’s sleep?

There is a climate emergency, after all.
