I couldn’t believe what I read from the Times editor Jim Stark about the investment at Mossmorran from ExxonMobil.

First he says that elevated flaring will be a thing of the past, replaced by ground flares, and secondly this won’t affect us.

Obviously Mr Stark doesn’t live near the plant, if he did he wouldn’t be happy at the prospect of more ground flaring.

Me and my neighbours have put up with Exxon and their evasions and lies for years and it’s disheartening that our local press blindly trusts Exxon. If Mr Stark is so confident in Exxon’s so-called good intentions maybe he could ask them why they keep refusing to attend any public meetings?

At least some of our local politicians and Shell had the decency to show face and listen to me, my neighbours, and others within our communities.

DIANA MORRISON,

The point made in the editorial was that eventually aerial flaring will become history. That is the key element of the plant improvements. The new plant boss has made it plain that he feels the time has come to see the FEP become a much better neighbour but it will not happen overnight. The Ed.
